Going to Pattaya? You Must Be Crazy!

What used to be a small, sleepy fishing village is now a tourist destination for millions of single men every year. Married men are also welcome but for some reason forget that they have a wife and family back home. Something about the attitude of the Thai women. With the new International Airport, Suvarnabhumi, opening in late 2006, getting to Pattaya has never been easier. Most tourists forego Bangkok altogether and head straight for Pattaya regardless of arrival time. After all, it is only 90 minutes away. Why go to Bangkok for the night when you head straight to your final destination.Located about 50 kilometers south of the old International Airport, Don Muang, Suvarnabhumi is an architectural marvel of steel and glass. The airport is absolutely huge and you will get your first taste of how big it is when you walk from your arrival gate to the Immigration officer to show your passport. It seems like it is miles away.Fortunately there are numerous Immigration officers to get you through the passport control checkpoint and the luggage carousels are directly behind them. A big electronic board tells your where your luggage is and then you are out the door to a waiting taxi.Taxi fees from Bangkok can range from 1200 to 4000 Baht so you have to use your best negotiation skills or book a ride online prior to departing. The many Bangkok and Pattaya forums can point you to reliable taxi drivers for a cheaper price than the taxi mafia at the airport. Highly recommend you book your ride ahead of time and your driver will meet you right outside of baggage claim. Then you just sit back and enjoy the maniacal driving skills of your driver for the 90 minute ride. If you are coming from the USA, then you will be on the “wrong” side of the road the steering wheel will be on the other side of the vehicle. Get used to this and check about 8 times before crossing a road as a pedestrian. It doesn’t matter what time that you arrive in Pattaya, there will always be something to do. Daytime gives you time for a nap or a walkabout to get the lay of the land. Night time arrival means you head straight out to the nightlife. Even arriving at 3 or 4 in the morning, you will still be able to find some night time activity to occupy your time.It is also a good idea to book your hotel in advance so you have a room waiting for you – especially during high season. If you are not sure of the quality, book for one or two nights and then shop around upon arrival. You may or may not be able to get a deal just walking in. Or you can just book your entire trip online. It is up to you.You will have plenty to do in Pattaya during the day and night. There are beaches, boat rides, and outer islands to visit, temples, go karts, bowling, and a whole lot more.Night time is when Pattaya comes to life. At about 5 PM the beer bars start to come to life and later on at about 8 pm the go-go bars are lit up in neon. Bars abound and you can’t go 10 feet without finding a new one. Walking Street is the primary place to go if you want to see the go go girls. Other bars are all over Pattaya along with massage parlors and other forms of entertainment.Pattaya is a great place for the single man to go to but be warned – once you go you will never be the same. You will come to understand the terms – Pattaya Blues and Pattaya Addiction. Chok Dee Khrap (Good Luck)

Pattaya Beach

Pattaya Beach Pattaya BeachPattaya's main attraction are its beaches. Pattaya Beach is situated along the central city in close proximity to shopping, hotels and bars. The over-abundance of jet-skis and speedboats has contributed towards the pollution of the water alongPattaya Beach. The section of beach from Central Road (Pattaya Klang) south to the harbor is directly adjacent to the core of Pattaya's abundant nightlife area. Therefore, it is less family-oriented than North Pattaya, Na Klua and Jomtien Beach.

Jomtien Beach

Jomtien Beach

Jomtien Beach is divided from the main part of Pattaya by Buddha Hill, just south of the city. In contrast to Pattaya Beach, Jomtien is a popular spot for family vacationers and watersports enthusiasts. Jomtien is essentially a residential area with beachside hotels, bungalow complexes, condominiums and restaurants. A wide array of watersport activities can be found, including jet-skis, para-sailing and scuba diving.
Jomtien Beach

Jomtien's most visible landmark is the 56-story Pattaya Park tower, part of the Pattaya Park entertainment complex which also features a water park, roller coaster, monorail and children's activities. This may soon be overshadowed by the proposed residential 91-floor Ocean 1 ("O1") Tower [1]. The Jomtien district is already home to one of the largest resorts in Asia, the 4000+ room Ambassador City Jomtien.

Pattaya Chon Buri Buffalo Races

Annual event on Thailand's eastern seaboard where farmers race their water buffalos- no wagering allowed!

All the fun of a day at the buffalo races

The crowds turned out over the period October 23 to 25 for the Chonburi Buffalo Races, one of the oldest events on the Thai calendar, and this year celebrating its 136th staging. Chonburi Governor Pracha Taerat chaired the official opening ceremony.

No parade is complete without a marching band, and every marching band needs a drum majorette.Past years have seen buffaloes from the neighboring provinces taking part, but this year there were not so many outside entries, owing to the gradual decline of the buffalo as a farm animal. The buffalo competition was divided into three categories: small, medium and large. There was plenty else going on too, with a buffalo fancy dress contest and competitions in kite flying, archery, Muay Thai, and climbing a greasy bamboo pole. The Miss Farmer contest attracted 99 competitors this year, the winner being 22-year-old Miss Suparat Kulachon. Second came Miss Chuthamat Thanimat, third was Miss Araya Parsompol, and fourth was Miss Weeranut Sukkasem.

The buffalo race is an annual tradition that is held on the 14th waxing moon of the 11th lunar month, which is one day before the end of Buddhist Lent. Farmers and villagers believe that it revives the spirit of the buffalo, and keeps the animals healthy. Originally very much a local festival in Chonburi, the races have in recent years become an attraction for visitors from all parts of Thailand and overseas.

Secrets Nightclub

Secrets Nightclub

If marketing is important in Pattaya disneyland, Secrets nightclub has done a good job.
They use the right girl for their advertisement if you ask me, and they also seem to know that Youtube has become an important channel to distribute some little, funny movies.

Have some girls dancing, mix some music, and that's it. If this bar is as good as it promises to be, is something you have to decide for yourself. Pattaya is changing all the time, and a good bar this month, can easily become a bad one next month, or vice versa. Currently, Happy agogo, coyotees, beach club, Angel Witch ... are among the most popular but in the end, you have to check it yourself. Some like coffee with milk, some like it with sugar, and some don't like coffee at all

Make-up: white is sexy, brown is ugly

There is that make-up thing I don't get with Thai women; they will put white powder on their face until they look like a ghost, or just as white as the guys from Kiss.

White is still beautiful to them, and trying to convince them from the opposite has no effect at all, as another characteristic from Thai ladies is that they don't listen so well, as some might expect... :-)
Yes, most of them can be sweet, caring, ... whatever. But don't try to tell them that their natural brown skin looks far better then the ugly, white ghostpowder.
There are exceptions, of course. But not too many.

The effects of the white powder may even turn out dramatic on pictures taken with a flash.

So be it. Anyway, after a shower, they will look nice and Thai again.
And try to take pictures without a flash

Pattaya Beach

BEACHJomtien BeachJomtien Beach this 6-kilometers long, largely straight beach, some 4 kilometers south of Pattaya, is the most notable of several beaches south of the resort. The beach is popular with windsurfs and waterspouts enthusiasts, largely because the area enjoys brisk and fresh breezes sweeping inland from the Thai Gulf, and because the seas are less congested with boats than is Pattaya Bay.Jomtien is also a major residential area with beachside hotels, bunga low complexes, condominiums and restaurants.Pattaya BeachPattaya Beach some 4 kilometers long, this beach faces Pattaya Bay, the major venue from where boats visit Pattaya's offshore islands. The beach curves from north to south and is largely paralleled by a tree-lined promenade and beach road, which is lined, in the northern and central parts, by hotels and restaurants. The northern section of the beach is largely tranquil, while the central and southern parts become increasingly lively, thanks to a juxtaposition of shops, department stores, boutiques, beauty salons, supermarkets, bars, discotheques, restaurants and night clubs. The central area of the beach is a major shopping area, while the southern end is one of Pattaya's major nightlife areas.

Wong Prachan BeachWon Prachan Beach is on the northern side of Pattaya Bay. The 1-kilometer beach shares the same entrance as the Central Wong Amat Hotel. A quiet spot, the beach is ideal for swimming and relaxation.

Only one sandy-beach on the east of the island is Koh Krok beach which is only 100 meters in length. This is an ideal place for coral viewing
Sak IslandKoh Sak some 10 kilometers west of Pattaya strait or 600 meters away from Koh Larn. Koh Sak is another Small Island shaped like a horseshoe with an area of 0.05 square kilometers. It has two beaches, one on the northern cover 250 meters in length, and area in which boats usually stop for tourists to swim and another one on the southern part of the island opposite the first island, with a pathway linking the two beaches, a small beach 80 meters in length. A coral is found at the area in front of the beach. Skin-diving is also possible in this vicinity.

History of Pattaya

In fact only 40 years ago Pattaya as we know it today, didn't even exist. On the stretch of coast between Sriracha and Sattahip, there were only a small number of fishing villages and in Pattaya bay itself, there were just a few fishing families who had settled here because of the calm waters and the safety of the bay, protected headlands to the North and South and by mountains behind. Their nearest neighbors lived just around the headland to the north, where, in the old days salt used to be produced (Naa-Klua = salt fields) but where there were now mainly fishing families. People traveled about by foot or by bullock carts because, except of the main road from Bangkok to Sattahip, only a few dirt roads and tracks existed.

Nevertheless, the bay and nearby islands provided good, safe fishing and more and more families came here to settle down, Gradually a village developed. At first was know as Tupphraya the general name for the area which dated back to the time when Pharaya Taksin (Duke Taksin) camped near here with the followers he had gathered to help free Thailand from the Burmese (Tupphraya - the Pharaya' - army)

The pace of life was slow and it seemed as if Pattaya would remain an out-of-the-way place forever. Even up to 30 years ago there were only a few buses serving the 100 or more families who lived here and visitors from elsewhere were few and far between. But things were destined to change and as usual, it was a war (the Vietnam War) which changed them. The U.S.A. sent soldiers to build the air base at U Tapao and many of these took to spending their leisure time and money in Pattaya.

As the village grew, the villagers wanted to give it a separate identity, so they adopted the name of Pattaya, which was the name they used for the strong winds which came from the South West at the beginning of every rainy season.

The beaches were clean in those days and the sea breezes made it pleasant and cool. People in the surrounding areas were quick to spot the business opportunities and bars guesthouses begun to spring up. The fisher - folk probably resented this intrusion, but it provided a good market for their catches and they soon got on the bandwagon by offering fishing trips to Koh Larn for about 50 Baht per head. Gradually, visitors from Bangkok also begun to use the resort at weekends, although the trip was a tiring 3 to 4 hours on the two-lane road. Later the US Military based in Thailand begun to use Pattaya for rest and recreation (R&R) and bigger hotels and entertainment places (including the oldest profession of them all) were built to cater for them. Thus the' 60s and' 70s saw the most rapid change and development. In 1964 in view of its new importance, Pattata was raised to the status of a village and in 1979, elevated to that of a Teasban Nakhon (Municipality), responsible now for its own administration.

Today Pattaya is Thailand's premier beach resort and attracts annually more than a million tourists from all over the world. Pattaya provides high standard hotels, restaurants, sports, entertainment and shopping facilities. The resort is Thailand's most important diving center and the east coast is also a paradise for golfers.
